Taylor Swift files to trademark voice and image after AI concerns

BBC News

Taylor Swift has applied to trademark her voice and appearance in an apparent attempt to protect herself from artificial intelligence impersonations. The pop superstar has lodged three trademark applications in the US - one using a photo of herself on stage during her Eras Tour, and the other two being audio clips of her introducing herself while promoting her last album. AI-generated versions of Swift have cropped up in various ways in recent years - from explicit images to a fake election ad in which she appeared to urge people to vote for Donald Trump. The move comes after actor Matthew McConaughey became the first celebrity to use trademark rules to attempt to protect his voice and image from AI misuse earlier this year . Trademark applications are a relatively new way for celebrities to combat the growing issue of AI rip-offs.

The game was created from clips and keyboard inputs alone, as a demo for real-time interactive video generation. Why AI could eat quantum computing's lunch Rapid advances in applying artificial intelligence to simulations in physics and chemistry have some people questioning whether we will even need quantum computers at all.

"What if you could say'Hey, add a flying unicorn here'? Or'Turn this into Star Wars,' and it's all Star Wars," says Leitersdorf. A major limitation right now is hardware. They relied on Nvidia cards for their current demo, but in the future, they plan to use Sohu, a new card that Etched has in development, which the firm claims will improve performance by a factor of 10. This gain would significantly cut down on the cost and energy needed to produce real-time interactive video. It would allow Decart and Etched to make a better version of their current demo, allowing the game to run longer, with fewer hallucinations, and at higher resolution.

#artificialintelligence

Joe Rogan has warned of the growing threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI) after a version of his podcast, "The Joe Rogan Experience," was created entirely through the use of AI technology, sparking concern among listeners. "This is going to get very slippery, kids," Rogan wrote on Twitter on April 11 in response to a video of the fake show shared on the social media platform by content creator Farzad Mesbahi. The fake video is titled "Joe Rogan AI Experience Episode #001" and features "guest" Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the creator of the artificial intelligence system ChatGPT. A disclaimer on the video noted that the contents depict a "fictional" podcast between Rogan and Altman, with all content generated using AI language models. "The ideas and opinions expressed in the podcast are not reflective of the thoughts of Joe Rogan or Sam Altman," the disclaimer reads.
